What Is a Medicare Supplement Plan?

Medicare Supplement plans — also called Medigap — are designed to cover the “gaps” left by Original Medicare (Parts A & B), such as deductibles, copays, and coinsurance.
These plans are sold by private insurance companies and work alongside your Medicare — not as a replacement. With a Medigap plan, you keep Original Medicare and gain the freedom and flexibility to see any doctor that accepts Medicare nationwide.

Plans are standardized (Plan G, Plan N, etc.) so coverage is the same across all companies — only the price and service vary.
